China Steps Up Global Civilizational Dialogue Efforts
A newly released study by the China Institute of International Studies says Beijing has been actively expanding initiatives designed to strengthen cultural exchange, encourage mutual understanding, and boost international cooperation at a time of rising geopolitical tensions.
The report, titled "China’s Actions for Advancing Global Dialogue Among Civilizations," describes a range of efforts attributed to Beijing aimed at deepening cross-cultural engagement and supporting shared learning between countries.
It also highlights the influence of the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), introduced in 2023 by Chinese President Xi Jinping. The initiative promotes respect for cultural diversity, rejects the idea that any civilization is superior to another, and calls for broader people-to-people exchanges across nations.
According to reports, these principles have been advanced through a variety of channels, including international forums, cultural partnership programs, and development cooperation projects involving multiple countries.
The report further points to a notable achievement: the creation of the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations by the United Nations, observed each year on June 10. The day was established after a resolution put forward by China and backed by more than 80 member states.
