Beijing Calls on Ukraine to Reverse Sanctions Targeting Chinese Entities
During a press briefing in the Chinese capital, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun voiced Beijing’s opposition, saying China rejects “unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law,” unless they are approved by the UN Security Council.
Guo called on Ukraine “to correct its mistake at once and undo the negative effect,” and emphasized that Beijing will “firmly safeguard the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies.”
The sanctions were unveiled by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday, targeting 53 individuals and entities linked to China, Russia, Iran, and additional countries.
"Restrictions have been imposed on more than 90 companies involved in extracting rare-earth and critical metals essential for the production of electronics, guidance systems, engines, and drones,” he stated.
Back in April, Zelensky had also claimed the capture of Chinese nationals allegedly fighting alongside Russian troops in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region.
